Thank you for your interest in submitting your film to the 2014 NUHO Film Festival. NUHO is now accepting film submissions. Additional deadlines and fees are noted below.
The New Hollywood (NUHO) Online Film Festival is a whole new experience for filmmakers. Submit your Short film, Narrative or Documentary Feature film and gain exposure like you've never seen before.
So why should you submit your film? Here are three really great reasons:
Revenue Sharing Program
Massive Exposure to Distributors and Agents – without Travel Costs!
Automatic Distribution Deal
All submitting filmmakers and finalists will receive a coupon for free stock footage downloads from POND 5.
Official Submission Deadline – Ends January 1
Short Film (Max 30 Minutes) - $25
Feature & Documentary (Max 240 minutes) - $35
That all depends on a number of factors, including your filesize, the speed of your internet connection, and how long your film is. While your film is uploading, take some time to fill in the rest of the important information that jurors and festival goers want to know about your film.
If for some reason you need to leave the page (or get booted from the net) before your film is done uploading, no worries! Just restart the upload and it will pick up where it left off.
It is NUHO's goal to get your film maximum targeted exposure with the least amount of effort. If you want to spend hundreds of dollars on submission fees, thousands of dollars on hotel and travel accommodations to have your film viewed in a theatre with limited reach - then the NUHO Film Festival is not for you. If you want to have your film reach millions of people including industry and audiences while making money doing it then NUHO Film Festival is for you.
Well, it depends. We've heard all the arguments against online film festivals made by people very comfortable within the current system. The middle men in Hollywood - the people who traditionally exploit filmmakers and make the most money doing so will tell you absolutely - that the value of your film will be cannibalized. They thrive on your fears and insecurities. After all, you are an artist. What the NUHO site does is get your film the most exposure to the world with the most direct and quickest stream of money back to YOU, the creator of the film. Let's do some simple math. If in 3 weeks, your film attracts 5 million streams at $1.99 on the NUHO site. Minus costs, merchant service fees, etc., you walk away with about 25 cents per stream. Doesn't seem like much, but multiplied by 5 million streams and you get $1.25 million. Pretty nice chunk of change. But hey - if you'd rather take that upfront minimum guarantee or advance for $50K and never see another penny - or wait months maybe even years to see a penny after all the creative accounting, then go ahead. At NUHO - we're 100% transparent.
Yes! NUHO Film Festival is the first festival anywhere to offer revenue sharing for filmmakers. All of the feature film finalists will be paid 20% of the per-streaming net proceeds for their films.
As filmmaking is a creative process, NUHO doesn't have a strict decision-making criteria, but these are some of the characteristics that we hope to find in the submissions: good writing, creativity, technical quality, stellar performances and overall appeal. The finalists will be selected by the festival staff and directors.
The Festival Jury will select the award winners from the festival finalists. Jury awards will be given in the following categories: Grand Prize for Best Narrative Feature, Grand Prize for best Documentary, Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short, Best U.S. Premiere.
The People's Choice Awards will be selected on the basis of popular vote. Each festival pass-holder will be prompted to vote for the People's Choice Awards in the following categories: Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short, and Best Narrative Feature.
NUHO will screen each and every film that is submitted within the festival submission guidelines and deadlines.
The festival finalists will be announced on February 1, 2014. Sign up for the NUHO News to be notified by email or text.
NUHO film submissions are accepted online only. It's simple and you can do it now.

Nope. Submissions are accepted by upload only.
When your film is selected as a NUHO finalist, prospective agents and distribution companies from around the world will have special access to screen and consider your film. Think about it – an unlimited number of agents and distributors will get a chance to see your film, on their own schedule, without airport layovers, crowded venues, and other distractions. They'll have immediate access to everything you provide: director's video, stills, trailer, EPK, one sheet. NUHO's network of relationships will afford your film more and better opportunities for a distribution deal than virtually any other festival. And if you win the grand prize, your film is guaranteed a distribution deal!
First and foremost, submitting your film to the NUHO Online Film Festival (NUHO) in no way implies any ownership rights by NUHO to the submitted film. You own your project. If you are approached by anyone to acquire your film as a result of being listed on our website or being screened at NUHO, NUHO does not take a cut of the deal. It is your film and all rights remain yours. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
To be eligible to submit, your film does not have to be a World Premiere or a USA Premiere. Films can be original or adapted works. However, all non-original portions of your film MUST be cleared with appropriately documented licensing. You must have permission to use someone else's work. If you submit a film with copyrighted or trademarked materials included and you do not have written permissions to use them, you will not be eligible to screen at NUHO.
You must be legally authorized to represent the entire work, in writing. Also, you should copyright your film. It is not required for screening at NUHO, but it is smart on your part to protect your work.
For your convenience, NUHO has no submission categories except as defined by the length (Short or Feature) and Feature Type (Narrative or Documentary). Short films must be 30 minutes or less. Feature films must be 240 minutes or less.
All media submissions and entry items (entry fee, copy of your film, trailer, marketing materials, etc.) must be uploaded and submitted by 11:59 p.m. PST on the deadline date in order to qualify for the deadline date.
NUHO does not screen anything that we feel promotes hardcore pornography or real life cruelty to humans or animals, or hate.
You hereby grant NUHO the right to utilize any excerpt from your submitted film for promotional purposes. The individual or company submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations. By submitting your film to this competition you agree that, if your film is selected by NUHO, you grant NUHO a non-exclusive license to use, display, exploit and exhibit your name, trade name, trademarks, service marks, copyrights, still images, moving images, audio sounds, your submitted film, material, information, and/or any other things received by NUHO publicly.
NUHO may also use excerpts from trailers of submitted films for promotion, to promote, market and advertise the festival. You also authorize NUHO to place your images and synopsis on our website, and films are reviewed by NUHO with the intention of selecting screeners for the festival and the work will not be divulged to any person not affiliated with NUHO unless first permitted in writing by a legally authorized representative of the work.
The individual or company submitting the film shall indemnify and hold harmless the Festival from and against any all claims, liabilities, losses, damages, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees, and costs of the court) which may be incurred by reason of any claim involving copyright, trademark, credits, publicity, and screening. The individual or company submitting the film hereby warrants that it is authorized to commit the film for screening, and understands and accepts these requirements and regulations.
Neither party shall owe any liability to the other party arising under this agreement for any indirect, special circumstances, i.e. website crashes. Neither party makes (and each party hereby specifically disclaims) any, representations or warrantees, express or implied regarding the services contemplated by this agreement, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, implied warranties arising from a course of dealing or course of performance or any warranties relating to title or non-infringement of intellectual property. Neither party makes any representation, warranty or assurance concerning any minimum or maximum number of viewers to each screening.

That's a Wrap and Good Luck from the NUHO Online Film Festival!
Where other festivals are looking for reasons to say 'no' to your film we are looking for ways to say 'yes'.
Our number one requirement is that there be no bad attitudes. We are here to help the filmmaker generate interest in his project. If we don't select you, we still want to offer up alternative ways to create exposure for your film. If you succeed, we succeed.
Films must have been completed – period. We accept all films. Whether you made a film several years ago and have yet to sell the distribution rights. We understand that films fall under the radar for one reason or another.
You upload and we do the rest. Your job is done. If selected then we require other information about the film. But this is where the fun begins.
Foreign language films must be made available with the original language soundtrack and English subtitles.
Entries may not have sold the distribution rights. We encourage you to hold your own public screenings. We also don't care if your film has played in 20 other festivals already. We recognize that still only a limited amount of people have been exposed to your project.
However, we require that your film has not yet been uploaded to any other digital sales platform.
If you wish to resubmit a film previously submitted to NUHO, you must reapply, paying the full fee.
We want to help you make your media look and sound as good as possible for your fans. There's a direct correlation between how large your media file is and how good it looks - so we'd like to minimize your upload time while keeping your media high quality. Download step-by-step instructions to submit your film here.
Encode your video media so it looks and sounds the best possible under 5 GB. While we may support files larger than 5 GB, they take a long time to upload. Note that your internet browser must support multi-part uploading and HTML5. We recommend using the most recent versions of Google Chrome, Safari, or Firefox.
Media uploaded with 5.1 surround files will be converted to stereo for streaming.
